Superintendent's Message 2012-2013 will be filled with excitement. We continue with our new accountability system with the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) for grades 3-8 replacing the TAKS tests, and end-of-course (EOC) tests for high school. Speaking of high school, London added 10th grade this year. Our teachers are continuing the curriculum called CSCOPE. Lessons are all aligned with the TEKS/STAAR/EOC and each meets the highest standards of rigor and relevance. On top all of these changes, the State of Texas new funding system for all Texas schools which resulted in some challenges that we must overcome.
The London family of educators will continue to give our students the best education on the Gulf Coast. Once again, we achieved an Exemplary rating from the Texas Education Agency last year –the top rating -possible. We have achieved this rating 9 out of the last 12 years and 5 years in a row. London I.S.D. is very proud of our achievements in academics and we will always work extremely hard to maintain high expectations and standards. Our professional educators are very caring and knowledgeable and will continue to strive to preserve our high principles.
We continue to draw a great deal of interest in this area. We have grown from 493 students last year to 615 students this year! We continue to be sought after by many families in the Coastal Bend. We have more than doubled our size in the last 5 years!
We have expanded our athletic program this year to include football and other sports in which our students can compete. We will competing for a district championship in volleyball, basketball, & track. This year will be our first to compete in District One Act Play contest. As always, we will strive for success in academic & arts competition. This is truly an exciting time to be a London Pirate!
I look forward to working with the LISD Board of Trustees and the great London family to meet the challenges that this year of change will bring. Always feel free to contact me for questions, concerns, or ways to improve our district. |
