Click on Accelerated Reader Quiz List icon to search out the title of your favorite book and see if we have the quiz. As always your participation in your child's reading is their greatest motivator! Accelerated Reader at London. London uses a web based software called Accelerated Reader which is part of a collection of software called Renaissance Place to build essential reading skills. The software allows each student to take tests on books they check out from our Library. The book level does not relate to quality, grade level or appropriateness. These book levels are determined by a reading formula based on words per page and difficulty of text. Books are also assigned an interest level based on publisher recommendations about the grade-level appropriateness of the content. Here is an example of three books with the same book level but have very different interest levels. Book Level | Title | Interest Level | Points | 4.0 | The Poky Little Puppy | LG | .5 | 4.0 | Gregor the Overlander | MG | 1.0 | 4.0 | The Color Purple | UG | 9.0 | | LG= JK-3 MG=3-6 UG =6-12 | | |
If you are unsure about book level, interest level or content appropriateness, please discuss Accelerated Reader with your child’s teacher. More information can also be found on the Library page of our web site. A letter regarding Home connect went home the first week or two, it has logon information so you can follow your child’s progress in accelerated reader from home. Many children can read higher interest level books but building reading comprehension and vocabulary skills may require suggested levels from their teacher. As always your participation in your child's reading is their greatest motivator! |
